Funding Opportunities for Accepted Graduate Students
K-12 Individuals with Developmental Disabilities (KiDDs) Grant
Children experiencing high-intensity needs often require care from experts from multiple disciplines. The KiDDS project seeks to train individuals to become experienced in interdisciplinary practices, allowing them to better work with children with high-intensity needs. This joint collaboration between the FSU School of Communication Science and Disorders, FSU Special Education program, and Florida A&M faculty members combines the expertise of speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and special education professors to support 45 master’s students over five years. Supported by a $1.2 million grant from the USDOE’s Office of Special Education Programs, the KiDDs program offers unique, interdisciplinary coursework to train future experts capable of working with children with disabilities. This project focuses on supporting children from low-income, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and presents learning opportunities through specialized seminars, interdisciplinary engagements, family-professional partnerships, and hands-on experiences. Speech-Language Pathology Tuition Support Program
The Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Tuition Support Program provides financial assistance for participants to earn a master’s degree in speech-language pathology. The program provides tuition support to program participants who are willing to work in a Florida public school with students who have communication disorders. After graduation participants must work in a Florida public school for a minimum of two years for every academic year of tuition support received. Funding is provided on an annual basis through the Florida Department of Education, Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part B. Priority is given to applicants who are currently employed as a bachelor’s level SLP, SLA, or SLPA in a Florida public school OR within three semesters of graduating with a degree in speech-language pathology and willing to work in a Florida public school. Triple L: Leadership in Language and Literacy Grant
The School of Communication Science and Disorders received a federal grant award from the Office of Special Education Programs of the Department of Education to support doctoral student leadership training at Florida State University. The $1,246,133 grant was awarded to FSU for the doctoral training project, titled Triple L: Leadership in Language and Literacy led by SCSD faculty Carla Wood, Andrea Barton-Hulsey, and Hugh Catts. Triple L will provide tuition and stipends for six doctoral students over a 5-year period. Triple L is designed to build the capacity of future leaders in speech language pathology with specialized knowledge to foster research and innovations for improving language and literacy outcomes for children with developmental disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The Triple L project will support doctoral level graduate students to generate, implement, evaluate and disseminate high-quality research, evidence-based practice, and policy. Triple L will also engage doctoral scholars at three partnering universities through joint symposiums and cross-disciplinary research to maximize impact and build knowledge and skills essential for leadership personnel.
The Triple L faculty are currently soliciting applications for doctoral students to begin in summer or fall semester 2020.
